This unprecedented series is based on hundreds of transcripts of
spiritual discourses of Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani, 40th Sufi
master of the renowned Naqshbandi Golden Chain, which originates
with Prophet Muhammad, may the peace and blessing of God upon him.
Respected for his moderate interpretation of traditional Islamic
teachings, for sixty years Shaykh Nazim has been instrumental in
spreading spiritual awareness to millions. Seekers around the world
eagerly log on to witness his daily live broadcast on Sufilive.com,
hoping to absorb his divinely inspired guidance on issues that
impact all humanity. A testament to their popularity, these
discourses are translated live into fifteen languages.
In a narration of Imam Ahmad, Abu Dharr asked Prophet Muhammad, "O
Messenger of Allah, how many are the prophets?" He replied,
"120,000 and between their number are 315 messengers." The Holy
Quran mentions twenty-five of these messengers, namely: Adam, Noah,
Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses,
Aaron, Zacharia, John (the Baptist), Idris (Enoch), Jonah, Hud,
Shuayb, Salih, Lot, Ilyas, Ilyasa, Dhu 'l-Kifl, Jesus and Sayyidina
Muhammad, peace be upon them all. These are the messengers of God
who came with holy books containing the Divine Message. The others
are prophets who received divine revelation but who were not
ordered to deliver it to anyone; it was for them. By way of
example, all of Jacob's sons were prophets, but Joseph was the only
messenger from among them. Laboriously compiled from rare
manuscripts, traditional Islamic texts, and other printed source
material, including ahadith and athar and the many traditional
books of history, and painstakingly translated from Ottoman Turkish
to English, Lore of Light depicts the perfected, blessed character
and refined manners that God bestowed on His blessed prophets and
messengers. This illustrious work examines the lives of the
prophets and messengers of God in great detail, heretofore unknown
in English literature on their lives. It depicts the great lengths
to which these holy figures went - at times losing life, suffering
humiliation, torment and abuse from those who opposed them, often
leaving their homes, always tolerant of their attackers and seeking
peace - to guide the many peoples and nations of the world towards
the light which God has sent throughout time for humankind's
betterment and upliftment.
Angels take any form they wish in the physical world. As crystal
water takes the form of the cup in which it is poured, angels can
take the form of any creation which they visit. They do not retain
their full original form of light when they are sent to human
beings: "Say: If there were in the earth angels walking secure, We
had sent down for them from heaven an angel without change] as
messenger" (17:95). Angels can come as birds, as human beings, or
as a form of light like a rainbow adorning the sky. They have a
mind and a heart, but no will and no desire other than to serve and
obey God. They are never too proud to obey Him. Angels worship day
and night without fatigue. They do not need to sleep, as their eyes
never tire. They know no heedlessness. Their attention never
wavers. Their food is glorification of God, their drink is to
sanctify and to magnify Him. Their intimacy is in calling their
Lord through hymning and singing His praise. Their enjoyment is to
serve Him. They are devoid of any and all physiological restraints.
They suffer no mood-changes. Angels inhabit Paradise and the seven
heavens. They worship more than human beings because they came
before them and they have greater and more powerful faculties than
they. They are more pious than human beings because they are
innocent and unable to fall into mistakes or wrongdoings. They
never ask forgiveness for themselves but always for human beings.
This shows us how much they care for us and to what extent God
created them to look after us. God made them our guardians because
a guardian is more perfect than the one he guards. Angels are more
knowledgeable than human beings. The teacher, again, is better than
the student. Their knowledge is of two kinds: intellectual and
traditional. "Intellectual" means here: "of the essence of reality"
or "of the heart." "Traditional" means: "revealed and translated
down from above."
A Guide to Spiritual Growth: In the struggle to approach
modernity's challenges with spiritual resolve, here is a refreshing
work based on classical Eastern teachings. Embraced and revered
heads of state and common citizens of diverse faiths and cultures
alike, Shaykh Nazim speaks straight to the heart, reconnecting the
reader with their forgotten spiritual roots. These coveted lectures
from his world travels transport us to a time rich in simplicity
and spiritual focus. LIBERATING THE SOUL VOLUME FIVE presents
practical steps to rid the heart of doubt; build self-confidence in
one's unique identity; overcome negative characteristics such as
anger, greed, and jealousy; express gratitude for unlimited divine
bounty; develop intimate communion with the Creator; learn to
respect and appreciate all creation; develop tolerance for others,
and much more.

Compiled by a world-renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual guide,
"Principles of Islamic Spirituality, Part 1: Sufism" is the first
of a multi-volume treatise written for western readers. It presents
a brief background of the Sufi hierarchy, their diverse communities
achieved through religious tolerance and goodwill, their social
responsibility, and treatment of the perennial conflict of good vs.
evil. While this historic work draws upon authentic legal
precedents and religious explanations from various Islamic schools
of thought that form the majority Muslim view, it is presented for
laypersons in easily understood terms and is highly recommended for
anyone interested in mainstream Islam and its moderate views of
today's world.
Compiled by a world-renowned Islamic scholar and spiritual guide,
"Principles of Islamic Spirituality, Part 2: Contemporary Sufism
& Traditional Islamic Healing" is the second of a multi-volume
treatise written for western readers. It defines the current
negatively impacted state of the human psyche, the causes of mental
and spiritual illnesses and their treatment with traditional
Islamic healing. While this historic work draws upon authentic
legal precedents and religious explanations from various Islamic
schools of thought that form the majority Muslim view, it is
presented for laypersons in easily understood terms and is highly
recommended for any study of mainstream Islam and its moderate
views of today's world.
The journey continues in this second volume of the series, which
takes the willing seeker deeper into spiritual practices that
develop advanced discipline on the Sufi Path. Savor the examples of
past students that developed reliance on their guides and reached
high spiritual stations. Lessons include the antidote to the poison
of anger that threatens all spiritual progress, how to guard
against thieves of the heart, and living a life of total
contentment in today's stress-filled society.

Secrets of Heavenly Food, the follow-up to Hajjah Naziha's Heavenly
Foods, contains over 150 recipes from a broad range of locales.
Ranging from Cyprus, Lebanon, the Indian-subcontinent to Southeast
Asia and even the US, these invariably delicious recipes range in
difficulty from simple to involved. With step-by-step instructions
and pictures it is possible for even a novice to successfully
prepare the most complex dishes in this book. Introductions by the
author's father, Shaykh Nazim, her husband Shaykh Hisham, and
herself, expound upon the connection between food and spirituality.
The heart of this book is the legacy it carries from Hajjah Amina,
the author's mother, a scholar and a refugee from Russia. During
the advent of communism, Hajjah Amina's family fled their native
homeland of Kazan, Russia, in order to preserve their right to
observe their religious faith. They sacrificed home, country, and
language for the sake of their spirituality. Herein are the recipes
which Hajjah Naziha has passed down from her blessed mother, Hajjah
Amina. A number of recipes are exceedingly rare, and cannot be
found in other sources, including the Small Meat-Filled Dumplings
in Savory Tomato Broth (Peel Meen), Rose Pastries (Gul), and Golden
Fingertip Pastries (Borsok). The Gul and Borsok were famously
prepared by Hajjah Amina in celebration of both Eids and Mawlid
an-Nabi. Hajjah Amina brought these recipes from her native country
and passed them down to her daughter, Hajjah Naziha, who in turn
passed them down to her own daughter, Sajeda. Through this work,
Hajjah Naziha generously passes down these recipes to her
"daughters" in tariqah, the female students who come to learn on
the Sufi path."
